Ivan Zhurba's profile

Inspired by Nature 3D Printed Ceramics

These two objects were inspired by palm leaves and their vast usages. Did you know that the Bribri people of Costa Rica use palm leaves for drinking cups? When leaves are heated over an open flame, they become strong and flexible like plastic. They then can be folded and formed into a cup.

Ivan Zhurba experiments with shapes and 3D-printing materials, and his results present these vessels inspired by tropical nature.

Kwambio developed a glass-based powder that was used to 3D-print these highly detailed pieces. The manufacturing process is different: there’s no need to glaze and fire objects. Instead, they are coated with a white paint.

Ivan’s palm leaf bowl and vase have a unique sandy texture. In the daytime, vessels will have some light shining through their crevices. The vase is perfect for dried flower bouquets and a bowl is good for pretty much anything.
"Inspired by Nature" project shows how 3d printing can be ecological clean, using eco friendly ceramic material i wanted to show how complicated forms can be that its even cant be reproduced by traditional pottery
"Inspired by Nature" project is now a part of New York gallery Design Pier
